Testimony

Hello , I’d like to take a moment to share my testimony with you. My name is Babett
Horn. I live in Harpers Ferry, WV. I am a wife of thirty-three years. A mom of three beautiful
daughters. I’m blessed with sons-in-law and five amazing grandchildren. I am an author
and speaker.

While all of those things I listed are incredible blessings in my life the most incredible
thing I can share with you is that Jesus came into my life when I was seven years old!
At that time my parents were not serving the Lord. I was allowed to attend a local VBS
at a small church. Throughout the week I heard the good news that Jesus wanted me to
be His friend. On the last day we were invited to meet in the chapel if we wanted to
know more about having Jesus in our lives. I was ready. I met my VBS teacher in that
little chapel and she used “the wordless glove” to explain salvation. Each finger of the
glove was a color to make it age appropriate for my seven year old understanding. I
knew when she talked about the black color of a heart without Jesus that I wanted my
sin to be washed away and that by praying a prayer of confession my heart would be
white as snow. I prayed a simple prayer and knew instantly that something had
changed in me.

I took this wonderful news home to my parents. I’d like to say that God moved on my
family right then. But, that’s not what happened. I continued attending Sunday school at
this church and praying with that same VBS teacher, that God would save my parents.
We prayed together for five years! When I was twelve I had the desire to be baptized.
God used that to speak to my parents. My dad wanted a relationship with God and he
prayed for forgiveness and salvation while watching a Billy Graham TV sermon. He
shared his salvation with my mom and she prayed a prayer of repentance! My younger
sister then accepted Jesus. Together, a few Sundays later we were all baptized on the
same Sunday!

I’m so thankful for how the Lord has led my life. I will say that just because I was young
when I accepted Jesus doesn’t mean I’ve made the best decisions always or that I
haven’t experienced difficult times. It means Jesus has remained with me through every
step.

I mentioned earlier that I am an author. In 2016 our oldest daughter unexpectedly
passed away. The Lord laid it on my heart to write about our grief journey. As I yielded
to this calling God brought amazing people into my life to help me tell our story. He
orchestrated a meeting with an editor, a writing consultant and a formatting expert. It
took several years to complete as I worked through my grief and attended counseling
and grief support group.

The Lord was so near to me during this time. He taught me the truth of beauty for ashes
according to Isaiah 61:3. I learned the importance of trusting God even in the
lamenting.

I now have a greater longing for Heaven. A greater anticipation of seeing Jesus. He has
placed eternity in my heart. Ecclesiastes 3:11 tells us He has made everything beautiful
in his time. He has placed Eternity in the hearts of man. We are not of this Kingdom so
we look to the promise of Heaven.

If you’re reading this and it resonates with you that you are being called to be a friend
of Jesus there’s a very simple method A) Admit you need Jesus B) Believe he died for
your sins C) Commit your life to Him. If you followed those three steps you should
know that ALL of Heaven just rejoiced! Welcome to the family of God!
