We were in an Italian restaurant, and they had three little Jesus figurines on display with a plaque that read, “Jesus Saves.”
The man making pizzas behind the counter saw Aulora playing with them and asked her, “Would you like to have Jesus?”
She said yes, so he gave her one of the figurines.
I am always amazed by the way children see Jesus. They don’t question who He is or what He can do—they simply know. They simply believe.
When we sat down at our table, Aulora began playing with her Jesus figurine. First, she shared her bread with Him. Then she added Parmesan cheese because she was sure Jesus would like it.
Next, she filled a little serving cup with water, stood Jesus in the middle of it, and had Him walk on the water. A few moments later, she showed Jesus being baptized. I said, “You know John the Baptist baptized Jesus.” She nodded yes and continued playing.
Then, a few seconds later, she exclaimed, “Look, Maw Maw! “Jesus can do a backflip!” And she had Him do a backflip into the water!
I’m pretty sure the Lord was watching all of this with delight as a little child remembered some of who He is.
Sometimes, I think we become too serious and miss the everyday joy of following the Lord. We live by our lists of dos and don’ts and forget that He wants a relationship with us. He wants conversation. He wants childlike faith that believes He can do anything. He enjoys the moments with us that aren’t scheduled, rushed, or pressed for time—when we simply relax in His presence.
“Would you like to have Jesus?”
The answer is YES!
Not merely a life of dos and don’ts, rules and regulations, but a lasting relationship with Him.
I want the Jesus who walks on water, eats Parmesan bread, and does backflips! I want that childlike faith that believes He can do anything!
